The need to achieve carbon neutrality and tackle climate change has become general consensus within the international community. Achieving carbon neutrality depends on investment in and the extensive application of green low-carbon technologies. Analysis by the International Energy Agency (IEA) discovered that 75% of the technologies required to achieve carbon neutrality have not been commercialized or extensively adopted. The promotion of investment in green low-carbon technologies still faces enormous challenges, including investors’ lack of confidence, inadequate support systems for the incubation and acceleration of green technologies and businesses, as well as weak government incentives. The proposal and realization of green finance concepts are key for financial innovation, development and competition in the 21st century. They also are key measures for driving the development of green technologies and achieving carbon neutrality. To promote the development of green finance and support green technologies, the Institute of Finance and Sustainability (IFS) will build a “Financing Green Technologies Platform” with its partners. The Platform will fully capitalize on the resources of IFS and collaborating institutes while joining hands with scientists and technological innovation enterprises to connect financial resources and support economic and technological development. In addition, IFS will continue to actively contribute by offering policy suggestions and related services.

Members of the Platform include equity investment institutions such as private-equity and venture-capital firms; green-technology companies; and research and development institutes, scientists and engineers providing green technologies at home and abroad. The secretariat of the Platform is found in the Greentech Innovation and Investment Gateway at IFS.

The content of the Platform includes: (1) build a green-technology project bank and a network of green technology investment institutes; (2) create benchmark projects through project-resource matchmaking and special roadshows to promote the connection and launch of green finance and projects; (3) organize formal meetings and informal exchange activities; and (4) explore and build platforms for accelerated incubation.
