CASI At a Glance

The Capacity-building Alliance of Sustainable Investment (CASI) was launched at COP28 in December 2023. Initiated by the Institute of Finance and Sustainability (IFS), based in Beijing, and in partnership with leading domestic and international institutions, CASI aims to advance capacity- building efforts in sustainable finance and investment, particularly for emerging markets and developing economies (EMDEs). CASI’s mission is to strengthen professional expertise, foster the growth of sustainable finance, and contribute to the achievement of global sustainability goals.

CASI’s founding members include IFS, HKMA Infrastructure Financing Facilitation Office (IFFO), Silk Road Fund, Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), HSBC, Standard Chartered Bank, Neuberger Berman (China), and the CFA Institute. Its membership network has grown to more than 70 institutions, encompassing financial institutions, multilateral development banks, asset managers, universities, research institutes, and professional organizations. CASI focuses on EMDEs, with activities spanning Asia, Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East. Adopting a demand-driven, ecosystem-based approach, CASI promotes the localization of sustainable finance knowledge, tools, and practices.

In response to the G20 Technical Assistance Action Plan (TAAP), CASI’s capacity-building framework is structured around four core programs:

  • CASI Academy

A comprehensive online learning platform that provides a structured learning pathway. Participants can access online courses, complete assessments, and earn professional certifications while enjoying flexible and self-paced professional development. The Academy currently offers around 60 modules across 12 themes in sustainable finance and investment.

  • CASI Sustainability Forums

Flagship in-person events convened globally to promote high-level engagement, knowledge exchange, and collaboration opportunities among policymakers, financial institutions, enterprises, and other stakeholders in the sustainable finance ecosystem. These forums facilitate discussions on emerging issues, encourage peer learning, and enhance systemic capacity-building efforts.

  • CASI Seminars

Targeted online and in-person sessions focused on key technical topics, policy trends, and market practices. These seminars aim to enhance professional knowledge, build sector consensus, and strengthen stakeholder capabilities.

  • CASI TA Services

Tailored technical assistance and advisory programs designed to meet the specific needs of institutions or regions. These include train-the-trainer programs, field visits, and in-depth capacity-building engagements. The TA Services support sustainable, long-term development and facilitate the practical application of sustainable finance knowledge.

Through these four programs, CASI combines both standardized and customized approaches to create a ripple effect across the sustainable finance ecosystem, influencing policymakers, financial institutions, enterprises, and individuals. To date, CASI has trained over 10,000 participants, with activities spanning more than 100 countries and regions, delivering measurable impact in strengthening sustainable finance capabilities in EMDEs.
