ESG Investment and Finance
We study and promote ESG concepts, methods, and tools, continuously carry out research on green ESG policies and related standards, support local green finance pilot projects as well as reform and innovation work, and provide specialized research and intellectual support to the green and sustainable development needs of government agencies, financial institutions, and business entities.
Research Areas
Transition Finance
Transition finance under the “dual carbon” goals is of significant importance. Therefore, the Center endeavors to advance its research into such topics, in order to further explore its potential practices in China. Under the five pillars of the transition finance framework, the Center provides policy recommendations to financial institutions to continually create new momentum for green finance in China. With full reference to the G20 Transition Finance Framework, as well as China's status and regulatory trends, the Center's research includes, but not limited to, supporting regulators by engaging in standard-setting, providing practical solutions to local pilot projects and financial institutions.
Information Disclosure
Environmental information disclosure, one of five pillars of the green finance, plays a crucial role within the framework. As the secretariat of China Green Finance Committee (GFC) environmental information disclosure working group, the Center actively conducts research on policies and standards in international cooperation. Meanwhile, the Center also assists financial industry to disclose their environmental information in a high-quality and sustainable way, by providing methodologies and instruments to financial institutions. The research includes, but not limited to, designing environmental information disclosure reports, ESG reports, and TCFD reports, based on regulatory trends and the current status of the commercial banks, insurance, securities, and funds.
Local Pilot Initiatives
The success of local pilot projects, as a crucial “bottom-up” lever of green finance, have been proved to be replicable and scalable. The green finance pilots will continue to be leveled up and expanded. The Center is committed to customize local green finance systems by exploring a differentiated pathway. Our research includes, but not limited to, designing an overall plan and strategies, creating a roadmap aligned with the "dual carbon" goals, and compiling a priority list for investment and financing in green finance.
ESG Evaluation and Application
As China continues to pursue its "dual carbon" goal, more demands for ESG evaluation have also surged from various market participants. The Center is dedicated to conducting ESG evaluations, establishing an ESG-centered decision-making mechanisms, and applying the results into practice. The research includes, but not limited to, conducting ESG evaluations for financing entities and projects based on the requirements of local governments and commercial banks, and integrating the results into the investment and financing process.
Green Transition Roadmap of Banks
Financial institutions are essential to green financial system. The Center is committed to providing targeted solutions to banks and other financial institutions which undergo a strategic green transition and expanding green financial services, covering strategic planning, product innovation, institutional arrangement, business processes, and other service offerings.
