Climate change, as a global crisis, presents significant challenges to natural ecosystems and the sustainable development of human societies and economies. Firstly, climate change poses a substantial threat, exacerbating the loss of biodiversity. More than half of the world's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) moderately or highly depends on natural and ecosystem services. Moreover, climate change introduces both physical and transition risks to the operations and assets of financial institutions, thereby creating systemic risks for financial system stability.

The development of transition finance needs the concerted efforts of more entities. Currently, most local governments, financial institutions and enterprises still lack capacity building in the process of promoting transition finance. For example, some industries' transition pathways are not clear enough and their transition finance standards are not established yet, it is difficult for financial institutions to obtain transition goals and identify the transition pathways of enterprises, and the enterprises themselves lack recognition of green finance.

The lack of capacity to develop and implement sustainable finance frameworks and solutions, particularly in Emerging Markets and Developing Economies (EMDEs), is a major obstacle to mobilizing the necessary multi-trillion-dollar investment for SDGs and climate actions.

To help the low-carbon transformation of the oil and gas industry and promote the implementation of transition finance in the energy industry, the research group of Beijing IFS completed and released the research report "Low-carbon Transformation Experience and Reference of International Oil and Gas Companies", aiming to provide international experience and reference for the low-carbon transformation and the use of transition financial tools for Chinese oil and gas companies.

The report proposes a set of transition finance disclosure frameworks applicable to Chinese agricultural enterprises, with a view to better achieving completeness and comparability of disclosure information and avoiding the risk of "fake transformation".

The report focuses on the core characteristics, policy opportunities, ecosystem and ESG frontier practices of the fintech industry, and puts forward the ESG development framework and action suggestions applicable to enterprises in the fintech industry according to the common and individual characteristics of the fintech industry, to provide reference for the practice of ESG in the fintech (technology) industry.

Taskforce on Biodiversity Finance of The Green Finance Committee of China Society for Finance and Banking (GFC) has collaboration with the Agence Française de Développement (AFD). Recently, with the support of the China Biodiversity Facility (CBF) and the AFD, the Chinese versions of two French research reports focusing on the identification and management of biodiversity-related financial risks have been officially published.

On April 11, 2023, the Institute of Finance and Sustainability (IFS) and China Construction Bank (CCB) jointly released the Green Paper of China’s Green Capital Market (2022) (hereinafter referred to as the Green Paper) in Suzhou. Ma Jun, President of IFS, and Cui Yong, Deputy Governor of CCB, attended the meeting and delivered a speech respectively. More than 120 representatives from green investment and financing institutions, such as the National Green Development Fund (NGDF) and China Yangtze Power Co. Ltd., were present during the official release of the Green Paper.

The report summarizes and analyzes the practical cases at home and abroad in supporting the integrated development of green finance and inclusive finance in innovative ways of supply chain financial products and services, and summarizes the experience that can be used for reference, in order to provide practical reference for China's discussion of the integrated development of green finance and inclusive finance, and put forward policy suggestions from the perspectives of industrial ministries and commissions, financial regulatory departments, local pilots, financial institutions and other multi-subjects.

In the vision of jointly achieving global climate goals, financial institutions, and practitioners in the financial sector around the world should play a key role in supporting the low-carbon transformation and sustainable development of the real economy.

Through research and interviews, this report introduces the concept, development status and application cases of natural capital accounting, to promote the exchange of technologies and policies on the accounting and application of natural capital in the two countries and the two systems.

A just transition means ensuring that the transition to a low-carbon economy is orderly, equitable and inclusive, which is an expectation of the effects of the transition. This article briefly introduces the connotation and necessity of a just transition, the requirements of the G20 Transition Finance Framework for transition finance to support a just transition, and some reflections on how to implement these requirements in the next step.
